The two types of engineering I am looking into (I'll probably end up doing a combination of the two - more leaning towards one of the other depending on how much I like thermodynamics this semester. I think I am going to enjoy it and lean more towards fire protection, but we shall see):

Fire protection engineering is the practice of using the principles of engineering to save lives and property from fire. Fire protection engineers typically design safeguards that aid in fighting fires, such as alarm, sprinkler, and smoke control systems. They also analyze buildings and investigate fires. NASA uses fire protection engineers on its space program to ensure safety. Historically, fire protection engineering traces its roots as far back as Ancient Rome, when Nero ordered the city to be rebuilt after a catastrophic fire. The modern history of the profession started in 1951, when the first meeting of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers occurred.
In the United States, Worcestor Ploytechnic Institute (WPI) and the University of Maryland are the primary source for formal education in this growing engineering discipline.

Mechanical engineering is a very broad field of engineering that involves the application of physical principles for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. woohoo. Doesn't that sound exciting.

See why I am leaning more towards Fire Protection Engineering. It sounds mroe exciting. I will probably end up with a degree in mechanical engineering with a concentration in fire protection. Or maybe I will get my masters in fire protection. Now that would be COOL!!! Such fun. Time will tell.
